Un mese per il vestito da sposa!

Ciao! Chi lo avrebbe mai detto che avrei cucito il vestito da sposa della mia migliore amica? Hello there! Who knew I would have sewn the wedding gown of my best friend in such a short amount of time?

Come già sappiamo, questo 2020 è un anno molto particolare! E la sua particolarità passa anche dal fatto che ho cucito l’abito da sposa della mia migliore amica in un mese!

This 2020 as we all know, is such a peculiar year! And one of its peculiarity comes from the fact I’ve sewed the wedding gown of my best friend in a month!

Lei è Silvia di Kimsoo – Una sarta in viaggio è anche lei sarta e, sebbene avesse già deciso insieme al suo compagno di sposarsi prima del Covid, con l’arrivo della pandemia tutto il progetto era stato messo in stallo. Finita la quarantena però, si riaccende la speranza e quindi: “Nico, mi fai l’abito da sposa?” “PRONTI!”

Let me introduce you to Silvia, from Kimsoo – Una sarta in viaggio. She is a seamstress as well, and even if she and her fiancé were already on the path of getting married this year, thanks to Mr. COVID, everything went on hold. BUT, when quarantine finished, a little hope came to rescue so: “Nico, will you be sewing my wedding gown?” “SURE!”

Abbiamo creato una mood board in fretta e furia per capire su cosa lei aveva piacere di indirizzarsi e a fine giugno siamo partite!

We created a quick mood board to know what her tastes were like and by the end of June, I started to sew it!

Il modello! The pattern!

Il modello che Silvia ha scelto è stato un corpino incrociato sul davanti drappeggiato, una gonna a ruota con ruches e spacco sulla gamba sinistra, il tutto completamente foderato e con lampo sulla parte sinistra del vestito.

The pattern she chose is a draped crossed bodice mixed to a full circle skirt with ruches, completely lined and zip on the left side.

Di per sè il modello non è particolarmente complesso, se si escludono i drappeggi sul corpino davanti e per questo motivo la scelta del tessuto è ricaduta su un fiorato gigante e ben visibile! Il tessuto con il quale quindi è stato creato l’abito è un duchesse da 150 gr/mq2 che ha mantenuto splendidamente il movimento e la struttura una volta indossato!

The pattern per se is not a complicated one if you exclude the front bodice drapes. That’s the reason why the chosen fabric is a vibrant and lively huge flower Duchesse! This Duchesse is a printed yet light one, only 150 gr/mq2, and it held together beautifully the structure of the shapes!

Qualche step di confezione/Some sewing steps

Come primo passaggio, ho confezionato la gonna a ruota intera e messa in prova sul manichino.

First things first: I’ve sewed together the full circle skirt and hang on the mannequin!

Poi ho aggiunto le ruches sul fondo e con questa base, la sposa è arrivata e abbiamo fatto la prova delle lunghezze!

Then I added the ruches on the hem part and the bride came to check its lenght.

Perchè quando si hanno delle belle scarpe così, bisogna assicurarsi che tutto sia in ordine nel punto giusto!

Cause, let’s face it, when you have such nice shoes, you better have the nicest length for your gown, right?!

Poi è stata la volta del corpino: Silvia ha sdifettato su di sè il corpino con i drappeggi e io ho confezionato la versione finale, comprensiva già di fodera!

The bodice came: once Silvia created the sloper on herself and check that everything was ok, I created the final version for the gown. I sewed together the outside fabric together with the lining.

Sua maestà, la fodera! Her majesty, the lining!

Apriamo una piccola parentesi sulla fodera e il suo comportamento quando è applicata ad una gonna a ruota: succede che la gonna perderà, dopo una notte passata ad essere appesa, tutto il taglio che aveva al principio per prendere la forma dettata dalla gravità!

Can I open now a little parenthesis on the lining and its behavior when cutting into a full circle skirt shape? After hanging all night, the skirt will lose the cut you did at the beginning to adapt to gravity!

Cosa si fa per rimetterla in pari? Pareggiandola a livello vita, con un metro e tanta pazienza, si misura il punto più corto e si mettono spilli lungo tutta la circonferenza dell’orlo, alla stessa altezza, per poi togliere il surplus che come si può notare, è abbondante!

What can you do to reshape it?

Align the skirt at the waist level, take you measuring tape, a lot of patience, and some pins. Start to measure the shortest part of the skirt to determine the final length and measure all around the skirt by pinning the fabric at the end to see the fabric’ excess.

Ed ecco qua l’abito in tutto il suo splendore: fiori, drappeggi e fodera!

And here you have it: the final dress in its full glory!

E il dietro, che non ti avevo ancora fatto vedere, è composto da pannelli per seguire al meglio il busto e dare il giusto sostegno.

The back of the dress! The back bodice is formed by panels to hold the torso in the best possible way!

Devo essere sincera, non pensavo sarei riuscita a cucire questo abito da sposa, così speciale per me, in così poco tempo. Ma sono fiera e grata per la meravigliosa esperienza!

I shall be sincere: I was not sure I was going to make it and sew this dress, so special for me, in such a short amount of time! But I did it and I’m extremely grateful for this possibility and experience!
